The 4th Grade Team celebrating as Auburn League Champs! Go Viks!
Current news: The 4th grade Viks wrapped up their season this past weekend in Moses Lake. They finished with 2 wins and 2 losses.
In game #1 they took on a talented Moses Lake Fire team. The Viks started out slow falling behind early. However, behind the aggressive play and sharp shooting of Anthony Gebauer (pictured on left)they took over the lead in the 2nd Qtr and never looked back. Anthony had his best offensive output of the year scoring a career high 10 points. Dylan Rhoades also put in a strong performance offensively scoring 6 points and playing outstanding defense.
In game #2 against Wenatchee. The viks started out the game where they finished the first. Playing great defense and running the offense effectively. Brayden Molmen led the way with 9 points. Brayden did a great job of distributing the ball as well as taking the ball to the rack. Aidan Fernando also played a great game. Aidan controlled the boards on both ends of the floor. The Viks had trouble adapting in the 2nd half to Wenatchee’s multiple screen offensive and would up losing the game by 6 ponts.
In game #3 the Viks Tipped off against a tough team from Hermiston Oregon. After falling behind early the Viks continued to play hard and grind their way back into the game. Ethan Steward created several opportunities with his aggressive play on defense. Connor Stanley did a great job on defense and rebounding. Eli Sevener logged in some quality minutes running the point and playing a wing. Eli, did a great job of distributing the ball and also ht a few big shots down the stretch. In the end the Viks comeback attempt fell short.
In the final game, the Viks faced off against the Moses Lake Falcons. The Viks came out firing on all cylinders and played that way for the entire game.Winning in convincing fashion Carter Pierce led all scorers with 13 points. Carter also played great in the defense in the press as he helped the Viks create several turn over’s in the first quarter. Brayden Molmen and Ethan Steward also played tremendous pressure defense. With their ball pressure the Viks were able to jump to a early as they forced several turn over’s. Aidan Fernando and Dylan Rhoades continued their consistent rebounding play from the weekend. Aidan, also hit several outside jumpers.

Previous Summaries... Great job this weekend and season Viks. Remember it is
all about attitude and effort. The 4th grade Viks wrapped up the
Auburn league play this past weekend with 2 great wins on their way to
winning the league championship . By having the best season record, they
earned a first round tournament bye. In the semi-final game they
tipped off against Auburn Basketball Academy. The Viks came out firing
on all cylinders jumping to an early lead and never looked back the
rest of the game. They back court tandem of Eli Sevener and Warren
Breithaupt (on left) were able to create several early turn-over’s
with their press and relentless defense.
Warren was also
able to convert on two 3 point field goals. Kyle Hefty and Aidan
Fernando led a balanced rebounding effort. Both Aidan and Kyle did a
tremendous job of finding a guy and blocking out. Anthony Gebauer
played his best offensive game of the year. Anthony hit several
key shots from the perimeter and enjoyed great success taking the ball
to the rack. Connor Stanley continued his great play from the
previous week not only offensively but played great defense.
the championship game the Puyallup Viking tipped off against the
University Place (Curtis) Vikings. The Puyallup Viks came out with the
same defensive intensity as the first game creating several turnovers
with intense defensive pressure from Brayden Molmen , Ethan
Steward and Carter Pierce. Brayden was able to have a
Viking career high in points as he scored 23 points. Ethan had
several assists that were created by playing great pressure defense. Dylan
Rhoades led the team in rebounding while playing great help
defense. Much like Anthony Gebauer in the first game Jake
Peterson had great success taking the ball to the rack. Jake also
hit several free throws in the game.
The Viks will have a few
weeks off from games until they hit the court in Moses Lake the weekend
of March 11-13
2/13/11 The Viking 4th grade team wrapped up
SPYA 5th/6th league with a solid team win and performance
vs. the 5th grade Force team. The Viks finished 500 in the league
with 5 wins and 5 loses. This was a great accomplished for these 4th
grade kids playing up against 5th and 6th graders. Nice
Job Viks. Kyle Hefty (on left) led the team in rebounding and
also worked hard on
getting up and down the court. Jake Peterson turned in his best
offensive performance of the year and Brayden Molmen led the team
On Saturday morning the short handed Viks played their final
league game of the Auburn Select league and won in convincing fashion
much improved Auburn Riverside team. Anthony
Gebauer had an outstanding game offensively and Eli Severner filled
in at the point guard and did a nice job of
controlling the offense.
Saturday afternoon the Viks played the first of 4 games in
the George and Abe Tournament at Impact sports in University Place. In
the short handed Viks tipped off against a talented Harbor Hoops team.
fell behind early and played great defense to fight their way back into
game. With 8 seconds left in regulation Ethan
Steward hit a game tying 3 to send the game into Overtime. In the
period Carter Pierce hit the game
winning basket to give the Viks a 2 point victory.
In game #2 the Viks played the University Place Elite 5th
grade team. The Viks started out hot as Ethan
Steward Hit 2 quick 3 pointers as well as 2 quick lay ins. However,
end the UP Elite team was just too much for the Vikings as they ran out
at the end.
In game #3 the Viks played a tough All Stars team from North
Tacoma. This time the Viks fell behind early as they could not get any
fall but played great team basketball to regain the lead. The 4th
quarter turned into a heavy weight fight as there were several lead
the end the Viks ended up losing by 3. Ethan
Steward’s game tying 3 at the buzzer rattled in and out. Dylan
Rhoades played a great game as he
led the team in rebounds. Aiden Fernando
played a solid game offensively.
In game #4 the Viks tipped off against the UP Elite 4th
grade team. The game was back and forth the whole way. When the final
off the Puyallup Viks had a 1 point victory. Connor Stanley
turned in his best performance of the year as he was
the team’s second leading scorer in the game. Connor played the
game under control hitting more than 1 game tying
basket and grabbed a few key rebounds during the course of the game. Warren
Breithaupt also played his best
game of the weekend. Warren had some
key defensive stops and did a great job jump stopping on the offensive
Overall the Viks had a great weekend. They finished with a 3
win and 2 loss record. In the process they learned to believe in
how to stay calm in close games. Great job Boys. Ethan Steward had
a career weekend hitting
several 3 point shots. Not only did Ethan
lead the team in scoring he did a great job of being the team leader on
2/11 The 4th Grade Vikings took on league rival University place
in a battle for first place in Auburn League play. Puyallup jumped out
early, with constant pressure from the Vik's press, Puyallup managed a
15 point lead in the 2nd quarter which they held all the way till the
end. Puyallup had a balanced attack from the team, with every player
making solid contributions on both ends of the floor. Eli Sevener
was fantastic at point guard setting up teammates with
constant backdoor opportunities. Puyallup now holds a two game lead for
first place in the Auburn league.
2/4The 4th grade Gold Viks continued play last
night in the 5th/6th grade SPYA league. The Viks came out firing on all
cylinders and won in convincing fashion. They were led in scoring by Ethan
Steward (pictured on left) and Aiden Fernando. Ethan Scored
12 points and hit two 3 pointers. Aiden had a season high 8 points
scoring all of them with outside jumpers. The Viks hard work this week
in practice paid off. They hope to continue their winning ways this
weekend in the Auburn league.
1/13 The 4th grade Gold team played a talented
Black out team in their last SPYA 5/6 league game. Overall the 4th
graders did a good job as they experienced many firsts in their young
career; A full court press from an experienced team as well as an
aggressive trapping defensive team. Brayden Molmen (on leftt) and
Ethan Stewart did a great job of getting the ball up court.
Brayden also led the team in Scoring. Dylan Rhoades put out great
effort on the offensive and defensive rebounds..Net game is Saturday
against Auburn Riverside. 1/10 The 4th Grade Gold Vik's
returned to action in the 5/6th
grade SPYA league playing host to a strong team From Eatonville. They
played with much more confidence and demonstrated that with their
the offensive and defensive boards. Brayden
Molmen led the way in scoring and Warren
Breithaupt Played with great energy and enthusiasm, his
defensive presence wreaked havoc on the court. He also hit a couple of
baskets down the stretch. In the end, the Viks came on short on the
board, but their confidence in playing against the older kids soared.

1/8 the 4th grade team played a
much improved ABA team. The Viks started the game out slow. Once they
they played a very spirited second half and cruised to an easy victory.

played with great confidence and did a great job of taking the ball to
rack. Kyle Hefty played with great
energy and enthusiasm on defense.
The 4th grade Gold Viking Elite team kicked
off their SPYA 5/6th grade league schedule last night at the
Keithley gymnasium. They tipped off against a talented Alexander’s team
Parkland. The Vikings started out slow as they were feeling a tad
playing against an older team. They were also facing a zone defense and
court press for the first time in their young careers. Once they settled
down, the team rallied, breaking the
press and running the zone offense with much more poise. Dylan
Rhoades did a great job on defense
and led the team in rebounding. Warren Breithaup came off the
bench and helped
energize the Viks with his aggressive play. The Viks ended up on the
of the score board in this game, losing a close one by 8 points.
However, the players gained some great
experience and will continue to work hard and get better.
4th grade Gold team continued Auburn
league play this weekend. In game # 1 they played a great game against a
feisty Auburn Riverside team. The Viks were challenged by their coaches
to work hard on transition defense. They took the challenge head on and
played great defense. The Viks won in convincing fashion 34 to 16. Carter
Pierce (on left) led the way on the offensive side of the ball
scoring a team high 14 points.
In the second game of the day
they played a tough UP Viking Elite team. The Puyallup Viks came out on
top 29 to 23. The coaches challenged the boys in this game to work hard
on rebounding. Aiden Fernando took the challenge to heart and
led the team in rebounds. He came up with a couple of big rebounds to
close out the game. Carter Pierce, continued to have the hot hand
in this game as he and Brayden Molmen each had a team high 8
Points . Great job Viks
12/11-12 The 4th grade Gold
team opened their Auburn league season this weekend with a great team
performance and victory over the Auburn Basketball Academy. The Viks
were led in scoring by Ethan Steward (on left) with 10 points.
Ethan did a great job defending his man and taking the ball to the rack
on the offensive end of the floor. Connor Stanley also chipped in
with 6 points and did a great job on the boards. He was the leading
rebounder for the game. The Vik's then traveled to Lacy for the the
Hawks of Tomorrow Tournament. The Vik's went 2-1 in the tournament,
loosing a tough one in the championship game against the Owls. The Vik's
went 3-1 over the weekend, nice job 4th grade Gold Vikings!
The 4th grade Gold team participated in the Hawks of tomorrow
tournament in Lacey this past weekend. The Vik's finished up a great
weekend of basketball with a 3 and 1 record, finishing 2nd in the
tournament. With only a few practices under the team's belt, this was an
outstanding showing for Puyallup! These games will work as a great
stepping stone for the coaches and players as they know have a great
idea of what they need to do in order to continue to improve their game.
A number of Vikings put forth great efforts over the weekend, Kyle
Hefty, one of the Viking posts, really stood out, leading the way in
the rebounding department on Sunday helping catapult the Vik's into the
championship game. Great job Viks.
